In 2017, author Shiro Koinange and publisher Angela Wachuka resign from their jobs to save a run-down colonial library in central Nairobi. Driven by passion, charisma, and a love for literature, they navigate both the city’s bureaucracy and a large-scale renovation, gathering artists, architects, technicians, and librarians around the vision of Book Bunk—a living hub of knowledge. How to Build a Library reveals a postcolonial dilemma: what do we do with a legacy we do not want but that still shapes us—erase it or remember it?

How to Build a Library will also be screened at Tranströmer Library on March 4 at 6:00 PM. Free admission!
