Back home in Malmö, Areeb Zuaiter remembers her mother, who was only truly happy by the sea in Gaza. She finds the same smile in videos of young men practicing parkour on the beaches of Gaza. She gets in touch with Ahmed, who makes the videos, and through them, she is able to experience his everyday life, filled with explosions, refugee camps, and parkour among the ruins. Zuaiter realizes that her longing for her homeland contrasts with Ahmed’s dream of a place where he can envision a future. Yalla Parkour won the Grand Jury Prize at DOC NYC and had its European premiere at this year’s Berlinale.
