I couldn’t handle my parents’ strict religious lifestyle, so I stayed away for twenty years. But now that my father is gravely ill, I have one last chance to return to our old home in Egypt, where I hope to understand their faith. In the desert and the monasteries, we clash over forgiveness, sin, and devotion. Through conversations with my parents, I begin to understand why I never stood a chance in my own marriage, which is now falling apart. The film raises questions about how we interpret religion and ideologies, and how they shape our relationships with others and ourselves.
