Douglas “Dogge Doggelito” Léon was once the face of Sweden’s multicultural suburbs. Now he’s struggling to make ends meet.

After losing his wife Leonida to cancer, Dogge left the band The Latin Kings to care for his daughter. Today he feels misunderstood and forgotten. Caught between the need for recognition and the pressure of unpaid bills, he tries to be seen as something more than a stereotype.

Iván Blanco has filmed Dogge over the course of twelve years. Malandro Moon is a story about identity and about rising again after loss. Dogge’s roots as a migrant and his search for acceptance expose Sweden’s ambivalent relationship with cultural diversity. With dark humor, archival footage from the ’90s, and Blanco’s persistent camerawork, the film captures Dogge’s struggle for dignity, with both rawness and humor.

Iván Blanco will take part and talk with the audience after the screening.
