Fantastique

This coming-of-age film follows 14-year-old Fanta from Guinea, who has dreamed since childhood of becoming an acrobat and touring the world with the circus group Amoukanama. Documentary scenes blend with magical realism and breathtaking performances as Fanta—supple as a snake—and the other acrobats soar through the air. With a tender touch, the film captures Fanta’s calm, wise, and curious gaze as she balances caring for her ill mother, keeping up with school, and pursuing her dream of becoming an acrobat.
