Tempo sneaks up with the exhibition The Urban Front

Already on this Saturday, Tempo Documentary Festival is sneak opening with the opening of the photo exhibition The Urban Front at Magnolia Gallery & Restaurant in Mariatorget.

Photographer Katarina Despotovic, together with sociologist Catharina Thorn has for several years been examining the transformation of Kvillebäcken, a neighborhood on the area Hisingen in Gothenburg. A former industrial area – populated by small businesses, associations and shops – wiped out and transformed into a showcase for sustainable and urban development. Despite the fact that gentrification is a process that is often described as objective and as a natural development it is really about politics, values and power.
