It all began with…
…a crazy idea. From nothing to a 11-day festival with guests such as John Pilger and Svetlana Aleksijevitj and a photo exhibition by Christer Strömholm at Kulturhuset in 1998. Thanks to visions and hard work, the first documentary film festival in Sweden was created, and although documentaries were looked at with much skepticism, it became an instant success! Tempo has now become a much awaited sign of spring during the second week in March. The basic idea of the festival is still the same – to highlight the most creative documentaries crossing over genre boundaries and to create a meeting place for the audience and industry.
Since the founding of the festival we yearly present documentaries from all over the world that otherwise wouldn’t reach the swedish audience. Tempo is a unique forum where we gather documentary works over genre boundaries- film, photography, transmedia projects, radio and more experimental forms of expression. The festival also arranges an industry section with seminars, master classes, parties and all kinds of meetings.
Between festivals we organize different kinds of events with a documentary touch, seminars, debates, photo exhibitions, film screenings and workshops for young people.
In 2007 Tempo was selected as one of Dagens Nyheters “Stockholm heroes” and since 2008 Tempos program director Melissa Lindgren and festival director Agneta Mogren are a part of the Guldbagge Awards nominations group for documentary features.
Thanks to everyone that year after year continues to explore the documentary landscape! Without you –no festival. This year Tempo gives you a bigger and stronger program than ever, with the best documentaries from all over the world. Welcome!
