In 2010, Ellie moves to San Francisco. They quickly fall in love with the city and the sex-positive queer community that exists there. Friends Cyd and Chloe support themselves as sex workers and when Ellie gets to know them, she begins to think that sex work might also be a way for her to afford to stay in San Francisco.
In Labor, we follow the trio’s friendships, relationships and experiences of sex work in a city in rapid change. Together with director Tove Pils and producer Melissa Lindgren, documentary film consultant Cecilia Lidin talks about the process behind the film. About the challenges of portraying a stigmatized subject, and how to approach a material that spans a decade.
